Cookie Policy

Last updated: 27 May 2025

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to site owners.

Similar technologies such as local storage and session storage may also be used alongside cookies to provide a consistent experience across your sessions.

2. How We Use Cookies

LanguagePrep uses two categories of cookies: essential cookies required to operate the platform securely, and analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) that help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Analytics cookies are only loaded after you give explicit consent via the banner shown at the bottom of the page on your first visit.

3. Cookies We Use

Essential cookies

NamePurposeDuration
sb-access-tokenStores your authenticated session so you remain logged in between page loads.1 hour (auto-refreshed)
sb-refresh-tokenAllows the platform to silently refresh your session without requiring you to sign in again.Up to 7 days
sb-auth-tokenUsed during OAuth sign-in flows (e.g. Google) to securely complete authentication.Session

Cookie names may vary slightly depending on your Supabase project configuration.

Analytics cookies (consent required)

NameProviderPurposeDuration
_gaGoogle AnalyticsDistinguishes unique users by assigning a randomly generated number as a client identifier.2 years
_gidGoogle AnalyticsDistinguishes users for session-level analytics reporting.24 hours
_ga_XXXXXXXXGoogle AnalyticsPersists session state for Google Analytics 4 measurement.2 years

Analytics cookies are only set if you click "Accept Cookies" on the consent banner. The data collected is aggregated and anonymous — we cannot identify individual users.

4. Essential Cookies

The Supabase session cookies listed above are strictly essential — they are required for authenticated features (signing in, accessing your dashboard, saving exam results) to work. Because they are essential, they do not require your consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). You can block them via your browser settings, but doing so will prevent you from using authenticated features.

5. Analytics Cookies & Your Consent

Google Analytics 4 cookies are non-essential and require your explicit consent before being set. When you first visit LanguagePrep, a banner appears at the bottom of the page with two options:

  • Accept Cookies — analytics cookies are loaded immediately and page-view and interaction events are sent to Google Analytics.
  • Reject — no analytics cookies are set and the Google Analytics script is never loaded.

Your preference is stored in your browser's local storage under the key lp-cookie-consent. To change your preference at any time, click the Cookie Settings link in the footer of any page — the banner will reappear allowing you to update your choice.

We do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, or behavioural profiling technologies. We do not share your data with advertising networks or data brokers.

6. Third-Party Cookies

If you choose to sign in via Google, Google may set its own cookies as part of the OAuth authentication process. These are governed by Google's Privacy Policy, not ours. Google Analytics data is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

7. Managing Cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. The links below explain how to manage cookies in common browsers:

Disabling essential cookies will prevent you from using authenticated features of LanguagePrep. Blocking analytics cookies has no effect on platform functionality.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use or in applicable law. We will update the "Last updated" date when changes are made. Continued use of the platform constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
